JURY FINDS JOHNSON & JOHNSON BABY POWDER CAUSES CANCER

A New York jury has awarded a woman and her husband $325 million dollars in the most recent verdict against Johnson & Johnson for a rare form of lung cancer caused by asbestos in Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder.  This was the first verdict in New York against Johnson & Johnson in a case involving asbestos exposure from Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder.

The verdict of $325 million included $300 million for punitive damages, which are damages meant to punish Johnson & Johnson and prevent them from engaging in this type of conduct in the future.  This verdict comes after a jury in St. Louis ordered Johnson & Johnson to pay $4.7 billion to women who developed ovarian cancer after using its Baby Powder.

These verdicts join multiple other verdicts nationwide against Johnson & Johnson by people who developed cancer as a result of Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder.  A Missouri jury awarded a woman $110 million dollars after she developed ovarian cancer after using Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder.  A New Jersey jury awarded $117 million and a California jury awarded $29.5 million in damages against Johnson & Johnson for causing mesothelioma, a form of lung cancer, in people who used Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder.

Evidence at trial has shown that Johnson & Johnson was aware of the risks of consumers developing cancer as a result of Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder but did nothing to warn consumers of the risk. Johnson & Johnson faces over 14,000 injury cases as a result of the use of Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder.
