Man Killed in Brooklyn Bicycle Accident

A 46-year-old man has been killed in a Brooklyn bicycle accident after a BMW plowed into him, throwing him on the hood of the sedan that then rammed into an SUV while going the wrong way on a one-way street. The incident happened at Halsey Street and Broadway. The victim, identified as Angel Torres, was taken to Woodhull Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses reported that the red 2014 650i BMW fled the scene of the fatal bicycle accident, going the wrong way on Thomas S. Boyland Street and smashing into an SUV exiting a parking garage. A father and his daughter were in the SUV and were taken to Kings County Hospital with minor injuries.

The BMW driver left the disabled car in the street, only to return a few minutes later to take two bags from the destroyed sedan and then flee on foot. Police are still searching for the driver.

Mr. Torres is the third victim of a deadly bicycle accident in New York City in 2014; according to the WNYC Mean Streets project, there have been 60 traffic fatalities in the five boroughs so far this year.
