Raskin & Kremins, LLP March 8, 2014

A 21-year-old woman was killed after she was involved in an MTA bus accident in Williamsburg while she was walking along Union Avenue.

Marisol Martinez was pronounced dead on arrival at Woodhull Hospital after she was hit by an MTA bus as she was walking south on Union Avenue in Williamsburg.  The Q59 bus was driven by a 50-year-old woman, who was traveling north on Union and making a left turn onto Meeker when the fatal pedestrian accident occurred.

According to the NYPD, there were 168 pedestrian deaths and 16,059 pedestrian injuries in New York City in 2013.  The leading cause in these pedestrian accidents was driver inattention or distraction; in the past year, at least 30 NYC pedestrians and bicyclists have been killed by drivers making a turn.
